FAMILY REUNION TYPEFACE

CLASS/PROFESSIONAL PROJECT

The Herrera Family Reunion started in 1941, when Genevieve Herrera's grandsons brought her dream of a family reunion to life. The reunion started in Santa Maria, California under the name “Las Famillias Unidas”. In 1978, they then bought a ten acre property that they called “Herrera Hacienda”, which is located in the isolated hills of Lockwood, California. For the past 84 years, the family has gathered there to share stories and create memories.

The typeface was based off of the sign created for the reunion property. It is called “Herrera” to remember the original family name and the matriarch of the family, Genevieve Herrera. The typeface includes the squared shape of

the letters while making them more consistent. For the logo, the “HH” from the sign is in the center. The top of the circle says “Las Familias Unidas” which is the original name of the reunion, and the bottom says “Since 1941” to represent when the reunion started. The tree represents the family and the members roots in their ancestry.
